Comic Fiesta 2012 Review

Hey all,

now is time for my annual review of Comic Fiesta. I have to admit, there is nothing much i can say about it this year as this year, everything ran quite smoothly and i was satisfied but as usual,i will do my pros and cons lists.

me & Freddie Mercury cosplayer

me & Dato Jimmy Choo, Danny Choo's father

From L-R, Ironman cosplayer, Dato Jimmy Choo, Danny Choo & Captain America

Me with Naked Sim

Me with awesome Domokun!!!

Pros
Nice hall lighting, ample space to walk, super awesome amount of doujin booths and prices for items were much cheaper compared to last year's Comic Fiesta or even this year's AFA MY. The air con was good for cooling people and enough place for people to rest at the sides if they get tired. The line up system was much better as well this year.

super adorable Neko Tenshi

awesome Ironman

awesome artwork i got

i met Danny Choo

me & The Flash

awesome Nyan Cat cookie

awesome Totoro cookie

me and awesome clown plus balloonist Mac Roy Roy

Mac Roy Roy made me a flower bracelet

super amazing Danboard cosplay

Cons
I did notice a significant drop in awesome cosplays, before anybody stones me for saying this,i have to admit that most cosplays seem similar and have come to a point that i say 'oh,seen that before' but i do admit the Danboard and Domokun cosplayer plus the Kirito cosplayer with awesome sword and the Freddie Mercury cosplay really caught my eye.

Another con is the lack of schedules or any information in physical form for media people. Me & WH did not get a press kit or even a Comic Fiesta booklet when we got our passes. No one seems to know if we were supposed to even get a press kit or not and i had to borrow the booklet from one of our friends to see the schedule or rely on my email to see schedules for press conference etc.

I notice the sound system this year seemed to have dropped or maybe because its a bigger venue this year hence the drop in the sound system.

me with super cute Rilakuma

All in all, As i said, CF was much better this year that i have nothing much to complain so yeah, until next year's Comic Fiesta, this is my post and happy new year to everyone :)

my day 1 shopping

my day 2 shopping

freebies i got from Animax

thank you to Comic Fiesta & Dustyhawk for the media passes :)

P/S since i have been busy with Christmas and internship right after CF hence i had not have the time to filter my pictures so all pictures here are from my Instagram feed, follow me at @ElleAlly if you have one :)

Comic Fiesta 2011 Review

Hey everyone,

As like my format last year,i shall list down the pros, the cons then the suggestions

Pros
Bigger hall space
an additional extra hall which cosplayers can go there and take a break without being too far from the main hall, allow photographers to take pictures of them without holding up the traffic in the main hall
Much nicer toilets
Really really good lighting (white light is still the best for taking pictures)
A park nearby so that photographers can take really nice pictures of cosplayers with a nice background
Awesome committee members and volunteers (shoutout to Choo & Clow)
Better crowd control (only on day 2)
Love the way the sponsors booth and doujin booths were positioned
PA system was so much better compared to 2010,I can at least hear what is going on this time even though i'm not near the stage.
The air con was just nice, neither too warm or cold
Pricing of items at booths were reasonable
Food & drinks were nearby enough without having to go out of the main hall
There were enough place to rest this time compared to 2010.At least i don't have to camp in the hallway this time.

Here comes the cons

Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre's security personnel.Seriously enforcing a lockdown without consulting the Comic Fiesta committee?! (that is what i heard).I heard ugly stories of them insulting my cosplayer friends and they were rude to me as well. One of the security personnel purposely shouted "this is not entrance" after i left the area when i couldn't get in from that way but as far as i know, media is granted access from any way and because of them,i got caught up in the lockdown with WH and nearly miss Shimokawa Mikuni & Ceui's performance altogether.WH also nearly missed his competition if Choo & Clow hadn't helped us out to get into the main hall.

The weird entrances and exits. The entrances and exits were weird. Its like you have to walk one big round before you can get in and yet the exit is so close by the main hall entrance.

No food and drinks in the holding hall.I had some friends who were stuck in the holding hall for at least 4 hours without any food or water. In the end, they left even before they managed to get into the main hall as they couldn't stand it anymore.

Lack of crowd control on day 1.As most are aware by now, because of this issue, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre management issued a lockdown without checking with the Comic Fiesta committee and it caused quite a chaos.People were selling off their ticket bands because they couldn't even get in even if they had a band and apparently a cosplayer even fainted while waiting outside in the heat.

Lack of communication between the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Security Personnel & the Comic Fiesta Committee.I had a cosplayer friend who is apparently the judge for the cosplay competition. As there were no committee members at the entrance,he was refused entry and he got stuck in the lockdown for about an hour until he typed message on his blackberry explaining the situation and showing it to the security personnel that they only called the committee member to come to the entrance and verify the story. It seems that there is a serious lack of communication between both parties here.

Parking fees was way too expensive.Over two days,me and WH parked in Suria KLCC and it cost us about close to RM40 for both days.

Here are some of my suggestions

The venue is good enough and it's big enough however better crowd control and better security personnel is needed.

Communication is vital between both parties as this will help to facilitate crowd control better and also help in unforeseen situations such as the crowd being bigger than anticipated.

Having food and drinks in the holding hall if there is a holding hall in the future in case of an event that the crowd will have to held in the hall a little bit longer, they will not be hungry or dehydrated.

Having better exits and entrances will be good.Maybe having two entrances and two exits will help with the crowd control so that there will be easy flow of traffic.

As parking fees are really expensive these days and not everyone may be able to take public transport with some cosplayers having really big props, maybe some sort of parking verification/cheaper fees for people who go to the event would help.

That's all for my review of Comic Fiesta 2011.Hopefully Comic Fiesta 2012 will be even better and greater, after all,it will be the 10th year anniversary :D

David Choi!!!

What can i say about David Choi except for the fact that he is super nice, awesome and has the most amazing voice live ever! me and WH got to the place really early but we decided to walk around for a bit and have our meal first before going back to line up.We reach back about 2pm and there were already some people ahead of us,we were second.

By about 4 plus pm,the line was growing longer till the point, the people in charge had to open the doors because there wasn't enough space to accomodate us anymore. We sat and waited.Hunny Madu was the opening act and she came to do her soundcheck, all of us sat there patiently and greeted her nicely. When David came, all of us were screaming and saying hi to him but we didn't like mob him or anything. All in all,it was a pretty civilized crowd until the doors were almost opening and when they announced that there are only 32 shirts being sold and that's when the crowd went wild.I nearly got pushed against the table while buying my shirts and WH stood behind me so that he take the bashing when the crowd started pushing when the doors were open.

Me with my board
Hunny Madu was a fantastic opening act with just the keyboard as her backing music. Her voice was raspy in a good way and not like the Amy Winehouse way (sorry to fans of her, nothing against her, just not my taste) and powerful. Can't wait to get her album when i have bit more cash.

Of course, the main course of the evening was David Choi.He was funny,he was sweet,he smiled a lot and made many jokes. He loved saying 'terima kasih' and was very responsive to the audience. The stories he told regarding his songs were good and helps the audience gain a deeper understanding into his lyrics. He is one of the most subcribed musicians on Youtube and yet he remains oh so humble. He ended the night with three of his biggest songs which was "Won't Even Start","That Girl" and "By My Side".

He even announced that "By My Side" will have a music video coming out in July which is produced by Wong Fu Productions.Me and WH waited around after the concert and it paid off,i got really nice pics with David and even gave him a polaroid of him.He signed my cds and a board that i made.
Me with David Choi

The polaroid that i gave him

All in all,it was a good night and i made WH help me 'steal' a poster off the wall after the show.I hope David comes back soon with the whole gang.
The poster that i 'stole' along with the board that i made as modeled by WH

Music videos by David Choi produced by Wong Fu Productions

An awesome interview done by Jin & Ryan from Hitz.FM with David Choi

Some Reflections

Its been a year plus since the breakup with The Ex-Domo and about 5 months plus into my relationship with WH.I have figured out that maybe there was a reason that i went through a not so ok relationship to use a milder word to describe it.When i was with The Ex-Domo,i was immature, selfish and basically a all-rounder brat.i had fights for the sake of having fights but maybe it was both ways as well.It was never right from the start but yet i refused to see that side.i tried looking at the glass half full when it was not even one quarter full at all.

I will admit i'm stubborn.I'm very stubborn to a point whereby its my way or no way at all.i'm not someone who compromises easily although some people might say that i'm soft hearted. With The Ex-Domo,both of us are equally stubborn and equally hot-tempered as well.a lot of times,i compromised and ended up,i never felt contented or happy as i should be.a relationship should be give and take on both sides but from my observation and as well as my friends observations,it feels like i was the one giving instead of receiving as well.

After having been through such a relationship,i learn that i appreciate WH a lot more than if i never been through that relationship because i would have taken WH for granted and the relationship would just crumble.i'm still a spoilt brat in a way but i guess i mellow down a lot more now.

With WH,i won't say its all sunshine and paradise,we argue and fight as well but we both compromise. He knows when its his mistake and i know when its mine.we both apologise to each other no matter who made the mistake because that's what a relationship is,compromising on both ends to keep each other happy.i feel this content feeling and happiness with WH that i never got with The Ex-Domo or anyone else.

Maybe this is what a good relationship feels like.content and happy even with certain arguments here and there.we never argue for long.if we feel that we need a time out then we time out for a lil while but usually we would apologise almost immediately.

on another note,i have serborrheic eczema on my face so its annoying me like mad :( btw i went to David Choi's showcase last sunday with WH and it was so awesome.his voice was so good.i will do a write up about it later.for now, goodbye

Comic Fiesta 2010 Review

Finally after all the lovely picture flood, here comes the crunching review.I shall list pros and cons and suggestions

Pros
Air con was not so freezing
Lighting was slightly better
booths were slightly better positioned
better more awesome cosplayers

Cons (unfortunately its quite a number)
space was too small!!! i could barely walk,i'm slightly clastophobic when there is a crowd.some guy nearly elbowed my face while shoving me.I'm not of average height so while other people might get elbowed in the arm,i can possibly get elbowed in the face.

Not enough resting place. We as in me,MG & Shawn literally sit on the sidewalks just to get a break

Not enough lifts & escalators.I heard there was a hidden escalator.why hide it,idiots.Waiting for the lift was like hell.In the end,on day 1,me and MG walked 14 floors down when my dad came to pick me up and on day 2,we plus Shawn walked down four floors for lunch and came up four floors again for CF.

Not enough walking space between doujins.I could be looking at something and next minute get shoved because people want to get through me.not cool at all.

Phil Ortiz & Phil Yeh had their booth near the exit?! that is not cool at all.why are their booths placed near the exit anyways?

Pricing for doujin items.I get that they have to make money for rent and etc but rm50 for a domokun hat when i can pay rm35 for a domokun shirt is just not cool especially when the doujin booth that sells the domokun hat sells a totoro one at like rm30?

Crew who were blur.Yes,i get the crew are volunteers but still i guess they need full information.I came to Comic Fiesta day 1 which was like chaos with all the people waiting for their tickets.I tried asking where to get my media pass which they could barely tell me and later Dustyhawk told me that can only get through him.confusing betul.

Food was really far.Nearest was the food court on the 10th floor @-@

Suggestions

straightforwardly a better venue is needed.I'm not saying go back to Sunway but still its one of the best places.More resting places, please?Of course a better way to get to ground floor if the event is held at upper levels.Food booths and also a booth for water please? That's just my suggestions.

I really hope Comic Fiesta 2011 will be bigger and better :)

Comic Fiesta 2010 Day 2

I got to Comic Fiesta day 2 late because i went to see The Guy's graduation exhibition at Central Market Annexe first.

First thing that greeted me when i got onto the fourteen floor of Berjaya Times Square hotel was DMC (detroit metal city)

MG was late and i didn't have shawn's contact number so i walked around and snapped pictures while i waited for him

This guy is awesomely cool.I think i saw him at other ACG events before.

Met Chin Yew again after so long :) He still recognizes me :)
