Comic Fiesta 2011 Review

Hey everyone,

As like my format last year,i shall list down the pros, the cons then the suggestions

Pros
Bigger hall space
an additional extra hall which cosplayers can go there and take a break without being too far from the main hall, allow photographers to take pictures of them without holding up the traffic in the main hall
Much nicer toilets
Really really good lighting (white light is still the best for taking pictures)
A park nearby so that photographers can take really nice pictures of cosplayers with a nice background
Awesome committee members and volunteers (shoutout to Choo & Clow)
Better crowd control (only on day 2)
Love the way the sponsors booth and doujin booths were positioned
PA system was so much better compared to 2010,I can at least hear what is going on this time even though i'm not near the stage.
The air con was just nice, neither too warm or cold
Pricing of items at booths were reasonable
Food & drinks were nearby enough without having to go out of the main hall
There were enough place to rest this time compared to 2010.At least i don't have to camp in the hallway this time.

Here comes the cons

Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre's security personnel.Seriously enforcing a lockdown without consulting the Comic Fiesta committee?! (that is what i heard).I heard ugly stories of them insulting my cosplayer friends and they were rude to me as well. One of the security personnel purposely shouted "this is not entrance" after i left the area when i couldn't get in from that way but as far as i know, media is granted access from any way and because of them,i got caught up in the lockdown with WH and nearly miss Shimokawa Mikuni & Ceui's performance altogether.WH also nearly missed his competition if Choo & Clow hadn't helped us out to get into the main hall.

The weird entrances and exits. The entrances and exits were weird. Its like you have to walk one big round before you can get in and yet the exit is so close by the main hall entrance.

No food and drinks in the holding hall.I had some friends who were stuck in the holding hall for at least 4 hours without any food or water. In the end, they left even before they managed to get into the main hall as they couldn't stand it anymore.

Lack of crowd control on day 1.As most are aware by now, because of this issue, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre management issued a lockdown without checking with the Comic Fiesta committee and it caused quite a chaos.People were selling off their ticket bands because they couldn't even get in even if they had a band and apparently a cosplayer even fainted while waiting outside in the heat.

Lack of communication between the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Security Personnel & the Comic Fiesta Committee.I had a cosplayer friend who is apparently the judge for the cosplay competition. As there were no committee members at the entrance,he was refused entry and he got stuck in the lockdown for about an hour until he typed message on his blackberry explaining the situation and showing it to the security personnel that they only called the committee member to come to the entrance and verify the story. It seems that there is a serious lack of communication between both parties here.

Parking fees was way too expensive.Over two days,me and WH parked in Suria KLCC and it cost us about close to RM40 for both days.

Here are some of my suggestions

The venue is good enough and it's big enough however better crowd control and better security personnel is needed.

Communication is vital between both parties as this will help to facilitate crowd control better and also help in unforeseen situations such as the crowd being bigger than anticipated.

Having food and drinks in the holding hall if there is a holding hall in the future in case of an event that the crowd will have to held in the hall a little bit longer, they will not be hungry or dehydrated.

Having better exits and entrances will be good.Maybe having two entrances and two exits will help with the crowd control so that there will be easy flow of traffic.

As parking fees are really expensive these days and not everyone may be able to take public transport with some cosplayers having really big props, maybe some sort of parking verification/cheaper fees for people who go to the event would help.

That's all for my review of Comic Fiesta 2011.Hopefully Comic Fiesta 2012 will be even better and greater, after all,it will be the 10th year anniversary :D

Shimokawa Mikuni & Ceui Full Press Conference At Comic Fiesta 2011

hey everyone,

On day 1 of Comic Fiesta 2011,the two special guest performers who are Shimokawa Mikuni & Ceui held a press conference after their performances and i managed to captured most of it by video but for the parts which i didn't manage to capture,i wrote down the questions and their responses so here is the full coverage :)

Here are the questions and responses which i did not manage to capture by video

Q:Did both of you always wanted to do anime songs or are you both new to it?

Shimokawa Mikuni:It was a suggestion to me however i've watched anime since i was young and the suggestion turn out to be a good fit for my voice and also for the series.

Ceui:My experience is similar to Mikuni-san's however the producers of the anime were searching for a singer for their anime production and they had heard my song.I had no idea that i will be singing both of the opening and closing songs.I'm so happy that i could involve myself in a full length anime production.

Q:What other animes would both of you recommend to watch other than the ones both of you sang for?

Shimokawa Mikuni:K-On.I had no idea that the anime was so huge.I first knew of the anime when i was reading a magazine.

Ceui:Suzumiya Haruhi,Kuroshitsoji and Itazura na Kiss

Q:Who is the hottest guy on earth right now for both of you? (this question is totally for the guy fans)

Shimokawa Mikuni:Someone who possesses traits like considerate, kind and would bring me to nice restaurants and eat nice food would fall into that category for me

Ceui:For me,it's somebody out of this world and its the same question i would like to ask.For me,it's Irie-kun from Itazura na Kiss & Sebastian from Kuroshitsoji.

Hope the questions and answers have entertained you :)

Comic Fiesta 2011 Day 1

hey everyone, Comic Fiesta 2011 day 1 was crazy.People were lining up since the early hours of the morning to get their tickets and to wait for the hall to open and the pictures below does not even do justice to the amount of people waiting

If you didn't already know, there was a lockdown @-@ enforced by the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre security personnel and this caused massive chaos hence in the midst of it all,me and WH got caught up in it as well but thanks to two very comic fiesta committee/volunteers who are Choo & Clow,we managed to get in the hall in the end.

These are just maybe 2/4 of the people affected by the lockdown

A little bit of back story here-me & WH went for lunch and didn't anticipate the lockdown at all,my friend called me up and asked me about it but i didn't know anything about it until we got back to the convention centre.I could have gone in because i had a pass but the guard was being such a b-word about it although the committee wanted to let me in and WH couldn't get in at all because he didn't have a pass, only his ticket band.WH had a competition to get to in the hall by 3pm and at that time,it was nearly 2.15pm hence we did not know how long we have to wait and technically WH is my crew member as he had to help me take shots from a higher angle on ground of the event since i'm limited due to my height so we explained our situation to Choo when we managed to get into the holding hall itself and he got us through the ropes holding the people back then i managed to speak to Clow who got WH a pass like mine. Thanks so much to both of them :)

Now onto the happy stuff :) Comic Fiesta 2011 day 1 is as always crazy with cosplayers getting ready and trying to figure out places to change and do their preparation and also photographers trying to figure out the best settings for their cameras as well as potential locations to have cosplayers to do more exotic photoshoots around the venue. The venue was so much bigger this time around and with a holding hall for people who wanted to purchase their tickets or to collect their tickets and also for cosplayers who wanted to get ready, the hallway seemed very empty compared to past years of comic fiesta that i have been to. Shimokawa Mikuni & Ceui even did a performance :) which i unforunately missed 3/4 of it due to the convention centre's security personnel but i managed to get some shots when the committee wasn't stopping me :P

The pictures below are some of the booths that made an appearance at Comic Fiesta 2011

There were amazing artists who also created artwork for the Comic Fiesta 2011 100 days countdown

Of course no Comic Fiesta is complete without cosplayers so now onto the photo flood of cosplayers galore :D

Nyan Cat decided to make an appearance at Comic Fiesta 2011 day 1 :D

Even John Lennon decided to come!!!

I couldn't help myself but to join in as well :P

In case you can't read his sign,it said "i used to be a cosplayer like you until
i took an arrow to the knee" (Skyrim reference :p)

Everyday i'm shuffling :p

Beelzebub and the gang came too :P

Domokun decided that he wanted to join in on the fun too

There was even a Marvel Vs Capcom preliminary tournament on day 1 however as me and WH had to leave early so we didn't stay on for the rest of day 1.

That's it for day 1.Stay tuned for day 2 :)

Shimokawa Mikuni biography (from the Comic Fiesta site)

Making her first appearances in showbiz as a member of the idol group Checkicco, Shimokawa Mikuni has since rocked the world of J-pop with the opening and ending themes of various anime series. She is most famous for her work on the opening and ending themes of Full Metal Panic!
In 2007, she made her first Asian tour through numerous cities like Taiwan, Beijing, Macao, Hong Kong, Seoul and Singapore, giving rise to a pan-Asian fan base. Earlier this year, she began working with the Chinese search engine Baidu, and became the first Japanese artist to officially register with the site. The site now hosts an official message board for her, where replies are posted by Shimokawa herself!

Ceui's Biography (from the Comic Fiesta site)
Inspired by the Portuguese word for “Star”, Ceui is a prominent artist in the Japanese AniSong (portmanteau for “Anime Song”) circuit herself. This fantasy-filled singer-songwriter has performed the themes for Girl Who Leapt through Space, Legend of the Legendary Heroes, Shattered Angels, Sola and more.
