Comic Fiesta 2012 Review

Hey all,

now is time for my annual review of Comic Fiesta. I have to admit, there is nothing much i can say about it this year as this year, everything ran quite smoothly and i was satisfied but as usual,i will do my pros and cons lists.

me & Freddie Mercury cosplayer

me & Dato Jimmy Choo, Danny Choo's father

From L-R, Ironman cosplayer, Dato Jimmy Choo, Danny Choo & Captain America

Me with Naked Sim

Me with awesome Domokun!!!

Pros
Nice hall lighting, ample space to walk, super awesome amount of doujin booths and prices for items were much cheaper compared to last year's Comic Fiesta or even this year's AFA MY. The air con was good for cooling people and enough place for people to rest at the sides if they get tired. The line up system was much better as well this year.

super adorable Neko Tenshi

awesome Ironman

awesome artwork i got

i met Danny Choo

me & The Flash

awesome Nyan Cat cookie

awesome Totoro cookie

me and awesome clown plus balloonist Mac Roy Roy

Mac Roy Roy made me a flower bracelet

super amazing Danboard cosplay

Cons
I did notice a significant drop in awesome cosplays, before anybody stones me for saying this,i have to admit that most cosplays seem similar and have come to a point that i say 'oh,seen that before' but i do admit the Danboard and Domokun cosplayer plus the Kirito cosplayer with awesome sword and the Freddie Mercury cosplay really caught my eye.

Another con is the lack of schedules or any information in physical form for media people. Me & WH did not get a press kit or even a Comic Fiesta booklet when we got our passes. No one seems to know if we were supposed to even get a press kit or not and i had to borrow the booklet from one of our friends to see the schedule or rely on my email to see schedules for press conference etc.

I notice the sound system this year seemed to have dropped or maybe because its a bigger venue this year hence the drop in the sound system.

me with super cute Rilakuma

All in all, As i said, CF was much better this year that i have nothing much to complain so yeah, until next year's Comic Fiesta, this is my post and happy new year to everyone :)

my day 1 shopping

my day 2 shopping

freebies i got from Animax

thank you to Comic Fiesta & Dustyhawk for the media passes :)

P/S since i have been busy with Christmas and internship right after CF hence i had not have the time to filter my pictures so all pictures here are from my Instagram feed, follow me at @ElleAlly if you have one :)

This activity is a three parter, and is open to anyone that attends the event. This means EVERYONE - be you a booth owner, vendor, sponsor, casual attendee, or die-hard member of the ACG community - can take part.

Part 1 - THE SECRET STASH- A "present pool" will be made open throughout the day for everyone to chip in. Submit your presents at the CF Information Counter!

Part 2 - LETTERS TO SANTA- Throughout the day, our "Santarinas/Santarinos" will be at the Information Counter and the CF Coffytiam to collect your letters!

Part 3 - THE CF STAGE SANTAS- Our Stage Santa will then pair up your wishes with presents in the Secret Stash and give the lucky wish-makers a chance to win these prizes through simple stage games!

To know more about this activity in detail, the rules and regulations are available below! We look forward to seeing you at Comic Fiesta 2012!

 RULES AND REGULATIONS

THE SECRET STASH

1. Submission to the "present pool" (hereby referred to as "the pool") is entirely optional. There is NO obligation.
2. Anyone can contribute to the pool. This includes (but not limited to) vendors, sponsors, doujin-kas, event attendees or even random generous passersby.
3. Submissions to the pool will be grouped and labeled according to their contributors (henceforth referred to as “Secret Santas") to be announced during and/or after the aforementioned stage games. However, the identities of Secret Santas can be made anonymous upon request.
4. There is no upper or lower limit to the contributions any Secret Santa can make, however Comic Fiesta reserves the right to turn down any contributions to the pool that we may deem inappropriate.
5. Due to limitation of slots, a contribution to the pool will not guarantee stage time. However, Comic Fiesta will ensure that ALL contributions to the pool will be given out our attendee(s) by the end of the event.

 LETTERS TO SANTA
1. Small slips of papers marked with the official Comic Fiesta chop will be provided when you request them at the CF Information Counter or the CF Coffytiam.
2. Attendees are required to fill up their letters with their names and a wish of their liking, and insert it into the jolly red socks carried by our Santarina/Santarinos at the Info Counter or Coffytiam.
3. Kindly make sure that all your Letters are filled in clearly and are inserted properly into a jolly red sock. Letters not filled in properly and/or put into a jolly red sock will not be considered.
4. Letters to Santa are exchangeable, and multiple entries from one person are acceptable. So asking your friend for his/hers is perfectly fine. (Just don’t steal~ >D)
5. Replies to Letters are subjected to the availability of prizes within the pool. Comic Fiesta will do its best to match up the prizes to the Letters submitted but cannot, and will not, guarantee recipients will get EXACTLY what they want.
6. Like any mail to Santa, Letters put into jolly red socks do not guarantee a response. Eager attendees are encouraged to increase their chances by making their Letters as specific and/or as interesting as possible to catch the eyes of our CF Stage Santas.

 CF STAGE SANTAS
1. Throughout the day, our CF Stage Santas will call up lucky wish-makers who have inserted their Letters into our jolly red socks up on stage for a simple stage game. These games will (generally) involve the lucky wish-makers interacting with their Secret Santas.
2. Should a wish-makers not respond when called (for whatever the reason), the chance will then be made open to the public. Remember! Santa doesn’t like a whiner, and our CF Secret Santas aren’t that different.
3. Presents given are not exchangeable.

So try your luck and hope you get something good :) i know what i want :)

Music & Relationships

hi everyone,

sorry for the lack of updates these past few months but i had loads of assignments,a part time job that kinda consumed my time.today i want to write about something that's been stuck in my head for quite some time but i just didn't know how to put it in words so i'll try to convey how i feel the best way possible so bear with me please.

i have been thinking about music and relationships recently.i've been driving a lot to uni and back so i keep hearing this song 'distance' by christina perri and jason mraz.the lyrics just makes me wanna cry because i was in that same situation quite a few years back but nothing was ever really resolved or rather things ended abruptly, suddenly and there was not much of a closure.

we just kind of moved on from that situation.i still see that person from time to time but everytime i bite back my lip and refrain from asking the most important question which is why.

so hearing that song just makes me keep tearing up and i choke up as i sing along to it while driving because i guess deep down i know that i will never get an answer to the question i want to ask and that things will probably never be resolved because that person cares too much about someone's feelings to even say the truth.

sometimes truth hurts but at the same time,it provides closure. Why am i talking about music relating to relationships? its because you might not be able to write down how you feel but someone else's lyrics could be related to how you are feeling or certain songs by certain artists can just trigger your memories about somebody.

I can't listen to jay chou songs without tearing up because that was a huge part of me & J's relationship which hurts even more knowing that J hates me now and considered our relationship meaningless.Pretty Girl (The Way) by sugarcult and love the way you lie part 1 and part 2 by eminem and rihanna described how bad was my relationship with the ex-domo.

i do not know if i will get closure with the person that i said the song distance reminds me of but if i ever could ask that person a question is 'why did you say you couldn't love me more when its clear that you did?'

some of you might think that i broke up with WH or something but no,we are still going strong,it's just that sometimes it's human curiosity this strange part of us who wants our questions to be answered no matter how futile it is.

no matter how much we know that the answer might hurt us or that the other party might lie to us,we desperately want a closure.being in a relationship is not easy but i think ending a relationship without any closure hurts even more and its harder because you are kept wondering what went wrong and you are left to guess for probably the rest of your life.

music just have this strong power to twist your emotions even when you don't want it to.sorry for the depressing first post after so many months but i just needed to get this out of my system.hopefully i'll write happier stuff soon :)

#PrayForAldaEvanTan

I've known Alda since Youth 09.That was the first time i ever met him and he was playing an acoustic show with Car Crash Hearts.I've met him possibly 2-3 more times at different gigs but as i got busier with college,i didn't have the time to go to as much gigs anymore but Alda nevertheless still invites me and always says that he hopes to see me there and basically being a big bro to me whenever i asked his advice on different matters. He was the one who gave me my confidence in my photography,i don't think he knows this but he was the first ever musician who used a picture i took of him as his facebook profile picture although i had just started taking pictures with a dslr about less than 3 months before that and for that,i'll be always grateful that he thought my picture was good enough.I never knew that 3 years later that i would be writing this blog post asking you guys to please pray for him no matter what God or higher power you believe in.Yesterday morning,i woke up in shock when the first tweet i saw on twitter was JD (Pop Shuvit) tweeting that Alda was in surgery due to a burst capillary in his brain and was in a coma however today,Alda's sister has confirmed that the condition is something else, please read here.Alda is a good guy and what happened to him has not only come as a shock to me but also to all of friends and his family as well.He is currently doing better according to his sister's blog but prayers help so i urge all of you who stumble upon this post, even if you do not know him, please please please send out a prayer for him.i believe in miracles.

Comic Fiesta 2011 Review

Hey everyone,

As like my format last year,i shall list down the pros, the cons then the suggestions

Pros
Bigger hall space
an additional extra hall which cosplayers can go there and take a break without being too far from the main hall, allow photographers to take pictures of them without holding up the traffic in the main hall
Much nicer toilets
Really really good lighting (white light is still the best for taking pictures)
A park nearby so that photographers can take really nice pictures of cosplayers with a nice background
Awesome committee members and volunteers (shoutout to Choo & Clow)
Better crowd control (only on day 2)
Love the way the sponsors booth and doujin booths were positioned
PA system was so much better compared to 2010,I can at least hear what is going on this time even though i'm not near the stage.
The air con was just nice, neither too warm or cold
Pricing of items at booths were reasonable
Food & drinks were nearby enough without having to go out of the main hall
There were enough place to rest this time compared to 2010.At least i don't have to camp in the hallway this time.

Here comes the cons

Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre's security personnel.Seriously enforcing a lockdown without consulting the Comic Fiesta committee?! (that is what i heard).I heard ugly stories of them insulting my cosplayer friends and they were rude to me as well. One of the security personnel purposely shouted "this is not entrance" after i left the area when i couldn't get in from that way but as far as i know, media is granted access from any way and because of them,i got caught up in the lockdown with WH and nearly miss Shimokawa Mikuni & Ceui's performance altogether.WH also nearly missed his competition if Choo & Clow hadn't helped us out to get into the main hall.

The weird entrances and exits. The entrances and exits were weird. Its like you have to walk one big round before you can get in and yet the exit is so close by the main hall entrance.

No food and drinks in the holding hall.I had some friends who were stuck in the holding hall for at least 4 hours without any food or water. In the end, they left even before they managed to get into the main hall as they couldn't stand it anymore.

Lack of crowd control on day 1.As most are aware by now, because of this issue, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre management issued a lockdown without checking with the Comic Fiesta committee and it caused quite a chaos.People were selling off their ticket bands because they couldn't even get in even if they had a band and apparently a cosplayer even fainted while waiting outside in the heat.

Lack of communication between the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Security Personnel & the Comic Fiesta Committee.I had a cosplayer friend who is apparently the judge for the cosplay competition. As there were no committee members at the entrance,he was refused entry and he got stuck in the lockdown for about an hour until he typed message on his blackberry explaining the situation and showing it to the security personnel that they only called the committee member to come to the entrance and verify the story. It seems that there is a serious lack of communication between both parties here.

Parking fees was way too expensive.Over two days,me and WH parked in Suria KLCC and it cost us about close to RM40 for both days.

Here are some of my suggestions

The venue is good enough and it's big enough however better crowd control and better security personnel is needed.

Communication is vital between both parties as this will help to facilitate crowd control better and also help in unforeseen situations such as the crowd being bigger than anticipated.

Having food and drinks in the holding hall if there is a holding hall in the future in case of an event that the crowd will have to held in the hall a little bit longer, they will not be hungry or dehydrated.

Having better exits and entrances will be good.Maybe having two entrances and two exits will help with the crowd control so that there will be easy flow of traffic.

As parking fees are really expensive these days and not everyone may be able to take public transport with some cosplayers having really big props, maybe some sort of parking verification/cheaper fees for people who go to the event would help.

That's all for my review of Comic Fiesta 2011.Hopefully Comic Fiesta 2012 will be even better and greater, after all,it will be the 10th year anniversary :D

Comic Fiesta 2011 Day 2

Hey everyone,

The first thing that greeted me when i arrived at Comic Fiesta 2011 day 2 was people carrying a huge My Little Pony which is called Fluttershy made by a member of Malaysian Bronies Society whose nickname is Mamat Terer as informed by my friend,Daniel who dressed up as Surprise who is part of the Malaysian Bronies Society later.

That's one huge My Little Pony

Day 2 was slightly more relaxed than day one without the tensions of the lockdown.Crowd control was so much better and to keep traffic moving in the main hall, the committee decided to utilize the extra hall by using it as a space for cosplayers to have their pictures taken there so that the main hall does not get held up in traffic by cosplayers posing for photographers.

Considerably less people lining up compared to day 1

Pictures below are some of the plushies, dollies and figurines doujin booth owners displayed at their booth

Much later,i got a close up glimpse of Fluttershy and she really is a beauty and i just heard that the maker of her is now accepting orders to make her :D yay :D

I also got some pictures of the Bronies :D

One of the drawings made by one of the Bronies,It's so awesome :D

As usual the crowds were crazy and the pictures below are just part of the main hall crowd

What is Comic Fiesta without a little bit of cosplay competion :P

Since day 2 was more relaxed,i got to take more pictures of cosplayers :D

Hey there,lovely :D

May the force be with you
