Hide And Seek with Random Alphabets

hideNseek-final

I'm sure most of you had heard about the Glee flashmob done by Random Alphabets. It had such huge publicity.it even got onto Star World for goodness sake! but today i wanna talk about a flashmob that is gonna be done to bring awareness to a really good cause rather than passion for a lovely tv show.

Hide & Seek is jointly organised by UNICEF Malaysia & Random Alphabets to bring awareness to child abuse.I will admit i'm not a super patient person and when i see kids screaming in public,i feel like slapping them to keep them quiet but i am aware that its not good unlike some people or even parents who just hit their kids senselessly.I understand about discipline (i definitely went through it myself) but hitting a 3-4 year old kid with a cane so hard that it leaves marks on their buttocks or even pinching them hard enough to leave a bruise, its too much!

Unfortunately, child abuse comes in many forms.Taken from Dustyhawk's site, there are 4 types of child abuse
Neglect: failure to provide for a child’s basic needs.
Physical abuse: punching, beating, kicking, biting, burning, shaking, stabbing, choking, or otherwise harming a child.
Sexual abuse: fondling a child’s genitals, penetration, incest, rape, sodomy, indecent exposure, and commercial exploitation through prostitution or the production of pornographic materials.
Emotional abuse: constant criticism, threats, rejection as well as withholding love, support, or guidance.

Come on now,its 2010,the 21st century! how can this still be happening especially in Malaysia when we are trying to reach the 2020 vision?! Well, according to UNICEF (which i took from Dustyhawk's site again) there are several factors that lead to child abuse.

• Parents are not prepared or have no knowledge of critical issues surrounding parenting.
• Parents lack an understanding of their children’s developmental stages and hold unreasonable expectations for their abilities. Parent’s also may be unaware of how to discipline their children most effectively at each age.
• Parent is experiencing a lot of financial stress such as loss of job, unemployment and diminished income.
• Parent has mental health problems, is living with a chronic illness and experiencing depression.
• Parents are experiencing difficulties in their relationship, exposed to domestic violence in the household, undergoing marital problems, divorce, or feeling the stresses of single parenting, isolation and loneliness.
• Parent is dependent and addicted to drugs or alcohol.

But honestly to me,no matter what factors contributes and leads to child abuse, its not right.i'm just a girl growing into a woman but i see babies and i see children and i love them (even the spoiled brats because they are just kids) and it makes me wonder who can hurt such innocent souls and steal the smiles away from their faces and turn them into sadness and tears.

For all who are reading this,if you are against child abuse and you do witness it,please tell someone you trust about it and report it if you believe there's cause to be worried because children can't stand up for themselves, its up to us to stand up for them and protect them.Don't ever hesitate because if its too late,we might just lose another innocent child.I unfortunately will not be able to attend this flash mob as i have prior plans but for those who can and are against child abuse, please join UNICEF Malaysia & Random Alphabets this Saturday,20th November 2010,11.30 am outside Raoul/British India at the 1 Utama new wing for the Hide & Seek flashmob.Children are most welcome to come and join in this flashmob.bring blankets/big sheets/cloth if you have any.QuirkyLilPrincess supports the Hide & Seek flashmob and is against child abuse in any form or way.
